Carnival Puerto de la Cruz
The International Carnival Puerto de la Cruz is celebrated in the town canary Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife, Spain). The mataculebra is a Afro-Cuban ritual that survives in the Carnival of Puerto de la Cruz. Canary arrives late nineteenth century at the hands of the Canarian emigrants returning from Cuba, is believed to have been introduced by Manuel Diaz, known as Manuel Catalina, who represented him in the streets portuenses and other parts of the island of Tenerife. The tradition continued until the mid-eighties of the twentieth century.
